It always surprises me when we get applications or calls from people who want to adopt a Poodle but it is obvious they have not read over our website and have no idea if they are dealing with a reputable rescue organization. I would never adopt a dog from just anyone or anywhere, as you may end up with a dog that is sick or has issues that the rescue group will not help with. Too many times the potential adopter ONLY considers the dog they see on-line and not the rescue group it belongs to.
Here are some things you need to look for when choosing to work with a rescue group:
Do they answer their phone or return contact in a timely fashion?
When you have sent an application did you receive a call or email back, confirming it was received?
Do they have a trial period and a return policy?
When you have made contact have they spent time answering your questions and concerns?
Are they honest and forth coming about the dog you are interested in adopting?
Does the person you are dealing with have the authority to make decisions regarding the dog and the adoption?
Do you feel comfortable working with this person?
One of the things we always do at Toy Poodle Rescue, when someone adopts from us is call them every day for the first week and every other day for the next week until the trial period has ended. We do this so we can help you with any issues that may arise with a new adoption. It's like Poodle support and we walk you through any issues so you do not feel panicked or afraid, as every dog is different and guaranteed the new adoptee will behave totally different from your last dog. It is important that you are comfortable and we want you to know we are right at the end of a phone if you need us, this is true for every dog we place whether it be today or a year from now, we are here for support and to share our wisdom of Poodles. Plus we make a promise to people who surrender their Poodles to us that we will make sure they are well cared for, for the rest of their lives and the only way we can do that is by making sure the home is just perfect for them.
Therefore we hope that anyone who wants to adopt from us will take a look around our site and decide they want to work with us, not to just adopt a Poodle. The Poodle is only as good as the rescue group that stands behind it.
