Available Dogs

It has been a very hard time for us here over the last couple of weeks. We got a call about a little dog we adopted to a wonderful family that the dog had passed away due to a totally freak accident. We are all devastated as these Poodles/dogs are a part of all of us. I was unable to do any blog update as I wanted to talk about this but was grieving so badly. It is a sad time and you question why we put ourselves through this heartache, as it would be so much easier to shut the doors take a vacation (haven't had one in several years) and let someone else worry about these needy dogs. It's called getting burnt out.

The turn around came when I got a call about a little Bichon who was totally matted and had been very neglected, I jumped in my car and off I went to see this little guy, it's very hard not to cry when you arrive to evaluate a dog and see this little poor thing matted to his skin. He could not walk properly due to the matted coat. I immediately said we would take him, OK he is not a Poodle but I could not leave him there in that condition, today he is at the vet's getting a full examination and vetting and the rest of his horribly matted coat cut off under anesthetic, as it would hurt him to do it while awake. When I looked at this little guy it reminds me just why we do what we do, so you pick yourselves up and continue to rescue dogs.

Another wonderful thing happened this week, we met the most amazing retired couple who thought that Tigi, was the best thing since sliced bread!! They did not discriminate because he was a senior or that he has special needs, they wanted to adopt him and they did. Tigi a now 12 year old found the most wonderful home with a couple that think senior dogs are a prize to be had, as they adopted another dog at 9 years old who is now 13! Thank you to the people who recognize that senior dogs need homes, love and someone to care for them in their retirement years too, just like us. Please consider opening your heart and your home to a senior Poodle you would never regret it, they make the most wonderful companions.

So although it has been a tough couple of weeks my faith has been renewed that I/we do this for a reason and the reasons were made plain to me by two little guys named Tigi and Casper.
